All-in package or the night billed separately? Which pays off

When you compare places to stay, you run into two worlds. In one there is a single big sum "with everything", in the other a night plus a list of extras. Both can be done honestly, and both can be done to pull the wool over your eyes. We bill separately, and below I explain why I believe that is better for you, and also when it is not.

How we count

Identical for both cabins. At no extra charge you get bikes, two SUP boards, the outdoor cinema projector, board games, bathrobes and towels, cleaning, a gas grill, a bonfire spot, the covered shelter and Starlink. Dog and cat always free. At Domek Marzeń you additionally get access to the stocked fishing pond with a rod.

A homemade liqueur and orangeade from Ciechocinek wait as a welcome. If you stay a few days, we will surely surprise you with something good along the way.

Why we do not fold the hot tub and sauna into one rate

Because not everyone uses them, and I do not want those who do not use them subsidising those who do.

We get quite a few guests in September and June who do not look into the sauna once in three days, because it is warm and they prefer the lake, the bikes and the shelter. If the sauna were baked into the nightly rate, they would be paying for something they never even switched on. The other way round too: a couple coming in February who wants the hot tub every day knows upfront what it costs, and does not have to guess whether "included" means an hour or the whole evening.

Full privacy instead of an hour-long session

This is the difference that does not show in a table, yet decides the whole evening.

The hot tub and sauna by your cabin are exclusively yours. You share them with no one, you do not sign up for a slot, you do not watch the clock. On a day you book, you get in at two in the afternoon and come back at eleven at night if you feel like it, and it is the same fee.

At most places in this category it works differently: either you share a zone with other guests, or you pay for an hour-long session after which someone is waiting for your spot. So when comparing offers, do not ask only "how much is the sauna", ask "how much is the sauna, for how long, and is anyone else using it at the same time".

What it comes to on a real stay

A weekend, two nights, two people, with the hot tub and sauna on both days:

The difference between the first and the second scenario is 450 zł that stays in your pocket, if that is what you want. In an "all included" model that difference does not exist, because you pay the same either way.

When an all-in package comes out better

Honestly: it happens, and there is no point pretending otherwise.

When you use everything, every day. On a stay where the hot tub and sauna run daily, a well-built package can come out cheaper than the sum of the items. Worth doing the maths.

When you do not want to make any decisions. One sum upfront and the topic is closed; that is real value, especially on holiday. With us, the closest thing is booking the hot tub and sauna for all the days right away; then there is nothing left to think about either.

When the package really contains everything. The trouble with packages starts when "all included" turns out to mean an hour of sauna a day or the hot tub in assigned windows. Then you pay for the package and for the extras on top.

What to ask of every offer

• Are the hot tub and sauna exclusive, or shared between guests?
• If they are included, for how many hours, and do you have to reserve a slot?
• Does the extra-person charge cover only the bed, or everything?
• How much are towels, bathrobes and the final cleaning?
• Is there a dog fee or a local tourist tax?
• What is the price for your specific date, not the "from" price?
