How far is Lake Huta and what to do around Rogowo

Rogowo lies in the Kujawy region, an hour from Toruń and 10 minutes from Lake Huta.

Ranczo Rogowo lies in Rogowo, in the Kujawy region, close enough to bigger cities for the drive not to be a problem, and far enough for it to be genuinely quiet. The question about the surroundings comes up with almost every booking, usually in two variants: "what is even there?" and "will we be bored?". Below, concrete numbers and an honest answer to both.

Where exactly Rogowo is

Rogowo is a village in Kujawy, in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie province. What matters for the quiet is what is not nearby: we do not sit on a transit route, there is no big tourist attraction within a few kilometres pulling in coaches, no disco and no holiday resort with megaphone entertainment. It sounds like a list of missing advantages, but that is exactly what most guests come here for.

The side effect is that without a car, getting around the area becomes difficult. Bikes on site are included in the stay and are enough for a calm ride along field roads, but they will not replace a car if you plan a trip to Toruń.

Lake Huta, the nearest point on the map

Lake Huta is about 10 minutes by car from the ranch. It is the nearest natural body of water in the area and the simplest idea for an afternoon, if you want to swap the view from the terrace for something else without losing half a day on the drive.

Let us say it plainly, because it is one of the most common misunderstandings: we do not have our own lake. There are ponds by the cabins, one of them stocked with fish (at Domek Marzeń), but you will not walk into the water straight off the terrace. The bathing spot is Lake Huta, and you have to drive there. If you are looking for a place with a private beach, we are not that place, and better you know it now than after arrival.

SUP boards, two per cabin, are included in the stay. Most guests use them on the pond by the cabin, but nothing stops you taking them to Lake Huta.

Distances from bigger cities

PlaceDrive time
Lake Huta~10 minutes
Włocławek~45 minutes
Toruń~60 minutes
Bydgoszcz~75 minutes
Warsaw~2.5 hours
Łódź~3 hours
Gdańsk~3 hours

These numbers matter practically when planning. Toruń in an hour means a trip there and back is realistically half a day including sightseeing, not a whole day. Warsaw in 2.5 hours means a weekend trip does not start with a full day of travel, which over two nights makes a real difference.

Toruń, the only really big trip within reach

Toruń is about 60 minutes away. The Old Town, the cathedral, the Leaning Tower, the gingerbread museum and all the restaurants a village by definition does not have. Close enough for a day trip without giving up your night at the ranch, and big enough to fill a whole day if you feel like it.

In practice this model works well: leave after a calm breakfast around 10 am, a few hours in the city, back before evening. Then the hot tub and sauna wait for you on your return, which is decidedly the better order than the other way round.

Bydgoszcz (about 75 minutes) and Włocławek (about 45 minutes) are sensible alternatives if you already know Toruń or want something less touristy.

Bajkowy Zwierzogród, if you are coming with children

Bajkowy Zwierzogród operates nearby, a mini-zoo with attractions for children. A good idea for half a day during a longer family stay, especially if the weather does not favour sitting on the terrace and the kids start running out of stimulation.

Worth remembering that on the ranch grounds themselves children have a trampoline, bikes, volleyball, badminton and football, and in the evening the 4K outdoor cinema. A trip is an extra, not a rescue from boredom.

How many trips to realistically plan

This question comes down to the length of the stay, so simplest to lay it out:

Length of stayRecommendation
1 night (Sun-Thu)Zero trips. Stay put.
2 nights (weekend)At most one short trip, e.g. Lake Huta.
3 nightsOne full day in Toruń, the rest on site.
4 nights and moreTwo trips fit comfortably, but no more.

The logic is simple. On a one-night stay (possible here only Sunday to Thursday) the time flies: arrival, hot tub, sleep, breakfast, departure. Squeezing a trip into that means you paid for a hot tub and sauna with no time limit in order to spend that time in the car.

Rada od Filipa

If it is your first time in the area, do not plan too many trips at once. Most guests who came for the quiet say themselves, after a first day in Toruń, that they would rather stay at the ranch for the rest of the stay. Almost nobody regrets leaving one day empty. Plenty of people regret planning three trips in three days.

What to do without going anywhere

Worth listing, because it is a real alternative to trips, not a filler. On site, in the price of the stay: accommodation, cleaning, bathrobes and towels, bikes, two SUP boards, a 4K outdoor cinema with a projector and Netflix, board games, a gas grill, a bonfire spot, the covered shelter and Starlink, plus a trampoline, volleyball, badminton and football. The hot tub with jacuzzi and the Finnish sauna are 150 zł per day each, booked for the days you choose. At Domek Marzeń, additionally the stocked fishing pond with a jetty and a rod included.

On top of that, board games for the evening and Starlink, if someone does have to join an online meeting after all.

What the area looks like off-season

The bathing spot is off from October to May, obviously. The rest works all year round: walks along field roads, a bike in good weather, and Toruń as a city has no season. In winter most guests stay on site anyway, because the hot tub in frost and a sauna heated to 90 degrees are exactly the contrast they come here for.

Who this area will not be enough for

If you are looking for a base from which to drive to a different attraction every day, you will be disappointed. Kujawy here is a calm, agricultural landscape with no mountains, no sea and no dense network of tourist attractions. That is an advantage if you come for the quiet, and a drawback if you come to sightsee.

If, however, you are looking for a base from which you can pop out once per stay to a pretty city, and for the rest of the time have to do nothing, this is exactly it.

About 10 minutes by car from Ranczo Rogowo. It is the nearest bathing spot, because we have no lake of our own.

About 60 minutes, so an hour on the road. Bydgoszcz is about 75 minutes, and Włocławek about 45 minutes.

Is it worth leaving the ranch grounds, or better to stay put?

It depends on the length of the stay. With one night we definitely recommend staying. With 3 nights or more it is worth giving one day to Toruń or the lake, and spending the rest on site.

Can you reach the ranch without a car?

You can get to the area by public transport, but Rogowo itself is a village, so getting around without a car is quite limited. Bikes on site are included in the stay, but they will not replace a car for a trip to Toruń.

Yes, walks and bikes work all year, and Toruń as a city has no season. In winter most guests stay on site anyway, because the hot tub and sauna are at their best then.

Is there something for children nearby?
