Home-cooked dinner: what actually lands on the plate and why there is no menu card

60 zł per person per night, a menu agreed before arrival, cooked on site. How it works, what about diets, and when it is better to cook yourselves.

The most common question about the food is: "so what exactly will there be?". It is a fair question, and the answer is: it depends on the season and on what we agree with you before arrival. Below we explain why it works this way and not another.

Why there is no menu card

Because this is not a restaurant and we do not want to be one.

A restaurant keeps stock for twenty menu items, part of which always goes to waste or sits frozen. We cook for specific bookings: we do the shopping knowing how many people are coming and when.

That has two consequences. One is inconvenient: you have to order in advance, because a request made on arrival day is a few days too late. The other is what people come here for: the food is fresh, seasonal and cooked that day, not reheated off a line.

How it works step by step

  1. You tick the meals when booking, or write to us at the latest a few days before arrival.
  2. You tell us about diets, allergies and what you do not eat. The earlier, the better.
  3. We agree the menu before arrival, in a conversation, not from a list.
  4. We settle the hour on site or the day before. There is no fixed time.
  5. You pay together with the rest of the stay, on site.

Cost: 60 zł per person per night for dinner, the same for breakfast. Both are ordered independently, so you can take just breakfast, just dinner, or both.

What "home-cooked" means

The word is overused in this business, so let us be concrete.

We cook ourselves, in the kitchen on site, from local produce. Seasonally, meaning that in August something different lands on the plate than in February. No catering, no reheating, no outside delivery.

The portions are big, proper and filling, and there is always enough for seconds. That is a deliberate decision, not an accident: we work on the assumption that you get up from the table full.

The character of the food is home cooking, country-style, like in a family home. If you are looking for signature cuisine with reductions and foams, this is not the place, and we say so openly.

What it costs in practice

ConfigurationCost
Dinner, 2 pers., 1 night120 zł
Dinner, 2 pers., 2 nights240 zł
Breakfast + dinner, 2 pers., 2 nights480 zł
Breakfast + dinner, 4 pers., 3 nights1440 zł

For comparison: dinner for two at a decent restaurant in Toruń is usually a similar amount, plus an hour's drive each way.

Cleaning, bikes, SUP boards, the outdoor cinema and bathrobes are in the nightly rate. Food is charged separately, and so are the hot tub and sauna, booked as extras at 150 zł per day each.

Diets and allergies

We accommodate them, but we need to know in advance.

Write when booking about whatever applies to you: vegetarianism, no gluten, lactose intolerance, a nut allergy, anything. We will adjust the menu.

What we will not do: we have no separate, certified gluten-free zone and no procedures for severe allergies requiring full separation. If your allergy is of that kind, say so directly, and we will tell you honestly whether we can manage. We would rather decline than take a risk.

Rada od Filipa

The most common mistake is ordering food only from the second day of the stay, "because on the first day we'll bring something". That usually ends in a sandwich at ten in the evening, because the shop is a good dozen minutes' drive from here and after the drive from work nobody feels like going. The first dinner is the one most worth ordering.

When it is better to cook yourselves

It is an equally good option and some guests do exactly that, especially on longer stays.

The kitchenette is fully equipped, identically in both cabins: a fridge, basic cooking equipment, dishes, a coffee and tea set. Outside stands the gas grill.

Cooking yourselves makes sense if:

  • You are here for a week and do not want to eat the same style for seven days
  • You have very specific dietary requirements
  • You treat cooking together as part of the trip
  • The budget is tight and 480 zł for a weekend makes a difference

It makes no sense if you are coming for two nights in order to do nothing. Then cooking is simply moving a duty to a different place.

The nearest shop, a Dino, is under a kilometre away, about three minutes by car, so it is better to do the bigger shop on the way.

What waits in the cabin regardless of any order

A few things come from the hosts, at no charge and without ordering: a homemade liqueur from my dad, orangeade from Ciechocinek and a set of coffee, tea, yerba mate and matcha.

That is not a line in the price list, it is a gesture. The liqueur is my dad's making, and it is usually the first thing guests ask about at check-out.

What about breakfast

That is a separate topic. In short: eggs in any form, cold cuts, cheeses, homemade preserves and bread, at a time you choose yourselves, because there is no fixed hour.

Who this works for

For everyone who comes to rest, not to cook. For couples staying two or three nights, where every hour spent at the stove is an hour taken away from the hot tub. For families, because cooking for four people in a holiday kitchen is not a holiday.

Who it is not for

For people looking for a choice from a menu and restaurant cuisine. For everyone who loves cooking and treats it as part of the trip. And for those who plan everything last-minute, because here you need to order ahead.
