Workation in a cabin near Toruń: what remote work in the countryside looks like

More and more people work remotely, but few manage to really get away from their desk without swapping it for another, worse desk in a noisy cafe with weak Wi-Fi. A workation at Ranczo Rogowo is an attempt to solve this differently: work on a good connection during the day and real rest in the evening, with no commuting anywhere.

Internet that actually holds up to work

The most common question before booking a workation is blunt: is countryside internet enough at all.

We answer with Starlink. It is not a random hotspot or a weak backup line, but a real standard that programmers, video editors and photographers sending large files to clients work on here. Video calls and data transfers run without the connection dropping.

An honest caveat: it is satellite internet. It is stable, but in truly extreme weather it can slow down for a while. If you have a meeting a contract depends on, keep a phone with mobile data as plan B. Exactly as you would anywhere else.

What the workspace looks like

Let us say it plainly, so nobody is disappointed: this is not a coworking space and there is no office room here.

There is a common space, a table you can genuinely work at, heating and silence. There is no ergonomic chair, no external monitor, no adjustable desk. If you work eight hours a day and have a sensitive back, bring a laptop stand and a mouse.

In summer a lot of people work on the terrace, and that is probably this place's biggest advantage over a flat in a block. In spring and autumn too, just with a hoodie.

A sample workation day

7:30-8:30. You wake up without an alarm, or with one, depending on discipline. Coffee on the terrace, first emails in silence, without the distractions of an open space.

9:00-13:00. The main work block. The best four hours of the day, because nothing is happening in the area and nobody walks in asking "got a minute?".

13:00-14:30. Break. And here is the whole difference: instead of a sandwich at the desk, you get in the hot tub. A real midday reset, not another coffee. The sauna heated to 90 degrees works similarly, only faster.

14:30-17:00. Finishing tasks and meetings. After the hot tub this block usually goes better than the morning one, which sounds like marketing, but I hear it from guests regularly.

After 17:00. Done. A bike, a walk, a bonfire, a second round in the hot tub or the outdoor cinema. Without the feeling that "I should do one more thing", because the laptop is closed and there is nowhere to go back to.

What it costs compared with an office or coworking

The rate includes accommodation, cleaning, bathrobes and towels, bikes, two SUP boards, a 4K outdoor cinema with a projector and Netflix, board games, a gas grill, a bonfire spot, the covered shelter and Starlink. The hot tub with jacuzzi and the Finnish sauna are 150 zł per day each, booked for the days you choose. There are no charges for using anything else.

It is not cheap and there is no point pretending it is. Against a good coworking space in a big city at 500-800 zł a month, the numbers look completely different. But coworking does not include accommodation, a hot tub, silence or the absence of commuting, and a workation is not an expense for a whole month, just for a few days a year.

A practical tip: take the middle of the week. 500 zł per night instead of 600 zł, quieter surroundings and better availability. A weekend workation is paying more for worse working conditions.

A workation for two

It works, but it requires one decision upfront.

If you both have a lot of meetings, one space and two calls at once is a difficult setup, even with headphones. There are two solutions: splitting the meetings across the day (one in the morning, the other in the afternoon) or renting two cabins.

The second option costs twice as much, but for a week of work for two people with intense calendars it is sometimes the only sensible solution. Each of you then has your own space, your own hot tub and 250 metres of silence in between.

If, on the other hand, one of you works and the other has time off, one cabin is entirely enough. That is the most common scenario anyway: one person in meetings, the other on a bike or with a fishing rod.

If you are coming with your company

Renting both cabins for a team, an offsite or a strategy session away from the office is a separate topic. The whole-grounds rules apply then, the covered shelter for around 20 people is available, and pricing is individual.

What is not here

There is no office room and no ergonomic workstation.

There is no printer, scanner or conference room.

There is no reception and no 24h staff, so if something stops working at midnight, it waits until morning or until I pick up the phone.

There is no cafe around the corner. There is a shop, a Dino under a kilometre away, but nowhere to sit with a laptop.

There is no social life. If remote work wears you down mainly through the lack of people, a week in the countryside is not a solution to that problem, it is a deepening of it.

Who this works for

A workation at the ranch works best for:

• Freelancers and deep-focus workers who need a few days without interruptions
• Couples working remotely together, where at least one has a calmer calendar
• People who want to separate work from the rest of the day without commuting home
• Creators and editors who need a connection for sending heavy files
• Anyone coming off an intense stretch who wants to combine work with genuinely slowing down

It will not work for people who need full office infrastructure or daily contact with people.
