Autumn in the countryside: the most underrated season of the year
September and October give the best ratio of quiet to weather, and November the best availability. What works in autumn, what is off and why it is worth it.
July and August disappear from the calendar first, because everyone has holidays then. Winter has the hot tub in frost, and that sells itself. Autumn falls somewhere in between, as if it were a compromise between the two.
It is not. September and October are the best ratio of quiet to weather that exists here at all.
What autumn does better than summer
There is nobody in the area. In July there is traffic towards Lake Huta and the usual holiday circulation. From mid-September it disappears. You get exactly the same place, only without the background.
The hot tub starts working. At thirty degrees outside, hot water at 39 degrees is a difference of nine degrees the body barely registers. At ten degrees the difference triples and an evening in the hot tub changes character.
The sauna stops being an abstraction. In the middle of a heatwave hardly anyone fancies 90 degrees. In September it starts making sense.
The bonfire happens when it should. In summer it gets dark after nine, so a bonfire means sitting until midnight. In autumn dusk at six means the evening by the fire starts at a sensible hour.
Dates are available. A banal but real argument. We have two cabins, so in season you have to plan ahead. In autumn, especially midweek, availability is a different world.
Month by month
| Month | What you get |
|---|---|
| September | The best compromise: warm like summer, empty like autumn. The fishing pond still working. |
| October | Colours, cool evenings, the hot tub fully worthwhile. First frosts towards the end. |
| November | The quietest, and the easiest to get a date. Grey, but it is the month people most need to get away in. |
November deserves its own sentence. It is the least attractive month of the year for most people, and at the same time the one in which we most often hear at check-out that they have not slept this well in ages. When there is nothing to do outside, the lack of a programme stops being a drawback.
What is off
Let us be honest, so nobody is disappointed.
The bathing spot. Lake Huta from October is a walk, not a beach. The SUP boards stay in the price, but nobody will use them.
A long day. In November it gets dark before four. If you plan a trip to Toruń, you realistically have from ten to three for it.
Dry ground. After longer rains the terrain can be soft. It is natural land, not a paved park. Shoes that can handle it are a good idea, especially if you come with a dog.
Weather certainty. September can give twenty-five degrees or three days of rain. It cannot be planned, and it is better to come assuming it will be what it will be.
A rainy day is not a lost day
This is the thing guests considering an autumn date ask about most.
The hot tub works in the rain and, strange as it sounds, that is when it is best. You sit in hot water, cold rain falls on your head, and it works exactly like the winter contrast, only in a gentler version.
The sauna does not notice the weather. The 4K outdoor cinema stands under the covered shelter, so a film in falling rain is doable and, again, strangely pleasant. There are board games in the cabins.
The rest of what guests come here for, meaning the quiet and the absence of obligations, is entirely independent of the weather.
Rada od Filipa
We collect our best reviews not in July, but around October and November. I suspect the reason is that in autumn nobody arrives with a to-do list. In summer guests feel they should make use of the weather. In autumn they let go right away, and that is exactly the moment rest begins.
What still works unchanged
The hot tub with jacuzzi and the Finnish sauna, both with no time limit on a booked day and exclusively for your cabin. Heating in the cabins. The cinema under the shelter. The gas grill. The bonfire spot. Board games. Starlink, if you combine the trip with work.
The pond at Domek Marzeń works until the water freezes, and September and early October can be very good.
Home-cooked breakfast and dinner, 60 zł per person per night each. In autumn they are more worth ordering than in summer, because in the dark and the rain nobody feels like driving fifteen minutes to the shop.
How many nights to take
Same as in any other season: two is the weekend minimum, three the optimum, and a single night is possible only Sunday to Thursday.
In autumn, though, the argument for a longer stay is stronger. Since you are not planning trips anyway, the whole stay happens on site and the third night is not diluted by anything.
Who autumn will suit better than summer
Couples coming for the quiet. Remote workers, because September and October are the best moment for a workation week. Everyone who copes badly with heat. And those who do not want to plan a trip three months ahead.
Who summer will stay better for
Families with children, because the trampoline, volleyball, bikes and long evenings are a summer season after all. Everyone who wants to combine the stay with swimming.
See the full pricing, read what to do all day on site or check available dates. In autumn, midweek, you will get a date practically on the spot.
